As with Colombet’s paintings, Dialogues and Double Takes reference the natural world and landscapes while giving an illusion of topography that interferes with our perception between microcosm and macrocosm.
Inspired by the art of Shanshui, the Chinese term for Landscape (shan = mountain, shui = water), Colombet’s monotypes have a strong reference to the Taoist imagery of mountains, rivers and waterfalls, exploring natural landscapes as spiritual and conceptual spaces.
This series of Prints were created in conjonction with Colombet’s show part of the Unexpected Dialogues: “Colombet/Monet” at the Musée Marmottan Monet (October 14, 2020 - May 2, 2021).
