Fernberger is presenting the LA solo debut of Vicky Colombet. The new exhibition will present new paintings including some of her largest works to date. The immersive nature of her imagery will be matched by the immersive scale of this new body of work. Please join us for an opening reception on Saturday, September 7 from 6-8PM.

Vicky Colombet (b. 1953) studied at the Sorbonne, during which time she created close personal relationships with Simone de Beouvoir and Delphine Seyrig, as well as other members of the intelligentsia at the forefront of feminism in France. She soon began her career as a graphic designer and writer before being invited to study in the Paris atelier of the artist Henri Dimi-er (1899-1986). They shared an interest in metaphysics and things that underpin and transcend the physical nature of the world and reality. Dimier introduced Colombet to a painstaking deconstructed process of painting involving grinding and mixing raw pigments with various solvents (oil, co-pal, plaster and water) that Colombet still employs today. Experimenting with the weights of pigments, their type of granulation, chemical response, their specific vibrations and steps for grinding, she creates her other-worldly compositions. She believes the use of pure pigment, chemical compounds born of the cosmos, gives unique vibrations and emotional resonance to her work.

Colombet has lived and maintained studios in Paris, the South of France, Barcelona and the Cévennes before finally settling in New York City. Colombet now divides her time between studios in New York City, the Hudson Valley, and Paris.
